Mr.Khaled Ghazy joined Canal Sugar as the Head of Legal and Government Relations in December 2022. Khaled is primarily responsible for driving the company’s legal strategy in support of Canal Sugar objective of contributing to Egypt’s national food security with a focus on legal and compliance, government relations, public policy, ethics, and brand protection functions for Canal Sugar and its employees.
In this role, Khaled is transforming the Legal & Compliance function to enable and protect the company in attaining its business and ESG goals. He is also driving the digitalization of the Legal & Compliance function to support the business strategy and objectives. Khaled ensures that Canal Sugar company abides with national and international governments laws, regulators, international organizations, and non-governmental stakeholders, all of which is enlightened by his political skills and technical knowledge of the complex social, political, and regulatory environments impacting our industry.
Khaled brings a wealth of deep legal knowledge and more than 24 years of experience within multinational companies in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East. His comprehensive legal background includes dealing with a wide range of legal matters related to oil & gas, construction & infrastructure, investment, agricultural, FMCG, joint ventures, and complex transactions.
Prior to joining Canal Sugar Co. in December 2022, Khaled held many leadership positions, recently he was the Head of Legal Affairs at Cemex managing both Egypt and UAE succeeding the same position in Sinai White Cement Co., a subsidiary of Cementir Holding. Before that, Khaled was the Head of Contracts and Legal Affairs at Dar Petroleum Operating Company. After he was a Regional Legal Advisor for the International Red Cross. Previously, Khaled spent nine years in the Egyptian judiciary where he held various positions including senior prosecutor and presiding judge.
Born in 1975. Khaled obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Cairo University and a Master of Arts in 2005 from the American University in Cairo.
Khaled was chosen by Mena Legal Community as the In-house Counsel of the Year 2022 – Infrastructure and Construction Practice. He was also chosen by Thomson Reuters as a judge at Middle East Law Awards 2021. Khaled lectured in different universities and institutes in the Middle East and co-edited a guide on training judges, published by Kuwait Institute for Legal and Judicial Studies
