Mr. Yehia Abou El-Fotouh has been appointed Deputy Chairman for National Bank of Egypt (NBE) as of March 01, 2016.

He has more than 35 years of well-grounded banking experience in banking in several local and international institutions. Mr. Abou El Fotouh has assumed several leadership roles in any areas such as Chief Risk Officer, Group Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, Deputy Chairman overseeing business and support functions in landmark financial institutions such as National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, Arab Bank and Bank of America.

In April 2008, He was appointed to be one of the key players in the transformation for National Bank of Egypt. He started with the credit workout division and managed through a series of reforms to reduce the bank’s Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) from 25% of gross loans in 2008 to less than 1.5% currently. He successfully closed several recoveries by around EGP10 bn. He additionally took oversight of the Risk, Operations and IT divisions and where the bank’s saw transformation in its operational platform, implemented state of the art technologies in the bank’s IT system and implemented international standards in credit processes that were able to cope with the increased business volume with minimal delinquencies. In his oversight of the business functions, the bank witnessed a boom. In corporate banking, NBE won several awards as a market leader in syndications. SMEs portfolio increased 11 folds and Retail diversified its product offering, was ranked as the best retail bank in Egypt for the past five years.

Being an integral part of the reform, NBE’s profitability increased 25 folds from 385 mn in 2008 to 10,111 mn in 2018. The bank’s equity increased from 7.5 bn to 93 bn for the same period. Loan portfolio increased from 75 bn to 540 bn.

Mr. Abou El-Fotouh holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Cairo University in
1984. He received several training programs covering most aspects of banking, credit and
investment management areas.
